If I were to write a book about
myself I would have to name it, The Never-Ending Exciting Life of Lisa
Peacock. I would name my book by this title because it can be ironic or it
can be very true. One way that my title could be ironic would be because at
times my life is very unexciting and extremely dull. Most days I come home to
sit on the computer and do schoolwork while one night a week I go and play
volleyball. On the other hand, life can always throw a curve. I work two jobs
and go to school full time and somehow or someway something always manages to
happen and I get caught up in either a mess or a miracle.
One of my favorite jokes is,
“Statistics show that three out of two people are bad with fractions.” This
joke appeals to me because it is Math related and Math is my favorite subject.
I do not teach yet because I am not
certified to teach in New York State. However, I want to teach grades 1, 2 or 3
and would even be happy teaching grades 4 and 5. I have one more semester (two
more classes) after this semester until I graduate.
I learned a lot about teaching
Language Arts through your course last semester. However, there are a lot of
things that I need to learn and will continue to learn throughout my entire
teaching career. The educational world is constantly changing and new ideas and
theories are being applied every single day. As teachers, we would be ignorant
to think that we know-it-all and that we cannot be flexible to new concepts. I
look forward to learning new things in this course.
In your EDLI 635 course I learned a
lot about the “new literacies”. There
are a variety of new ways that technology helps students with reading
comprehension and reading strategies. A lot of the eBooks online have help aids
such as roll over word pronunciation and audio recordings. One of my favorite
lessons that I had to do in one class was create my own virtual book online. We
were able to create a background and illustrate each page with our own text.
My concern for taking this course
is applying it to my own teaching methods. With any course the information can
be useless unless you choose to apply the theories in your classroom. I hope to
be able to create meaningful lessons that are rich in technology and
inquiry-based learning.
